A 14-year-old child has been forced to have an abortion by the 21-year-old who raped her in Kosovo.
Local media reported that the childs “boyfriend” had sexually exploited her and when she fell pregant, he forced her to have an abortion in a private clinic. It’s alleged he had met her over the course of two months in various hotels.
She and her parents reported the case to the police and he was arrested. A relative of the man stated that it was a “love affair” and that nothing had happened to her by force.
Contrary to how other media has reported the incident, he was not her “boyfriend”. A child of 14-years-old is unable to give consent in terms of a sexual relationship with an adult. In Kosovo, a child becomes an adult at the age of 18 and the age of consent for intercourse is 16. As she was several years younger than the age of adulthood and consent, sexual intercourse with her should be reported as rape.
