36.2% Decrease in Foreign Visitors to Albania, Business Travel Increases

Visits by foreign citizens to Albania decreased by 36.2% in September, compared with the same period the year before.

Overall, all arrivals including Albanian citizens decreased by 43.1%.

In September, some 377,033 foreigners visited Albania. Between January 2020 and September 2020, 2.1 million non-Albanians visited the country. This was an overall decrease on the first nine months of 2019.

In terms of people leaving the country, foreign and Albanian departures for September decreased by 44.7% compared to 2019. Some 271,586 Albanians left the country during that month, a decrease of over 50% on the same period the year before.

In terms of foreign citizens entering the country, there was a big increase of Kosovo citizens. In September 2019, 196,207 entered Albania. This September, the number grew to 239,353.

The number of North Macedonian’s visiting decreased by around 60,000, and Greeks by around 41,000.

Out of those entering the territory in 2020, most came for personal reasons such as holidays and visiting family, over 80,000 came for business and professional reasons, and around 55,000 transmitted through. Only business travellers increased this year compared to last year by 11.5%.
