370 Albanian Citizens Report Symptoms of Poisoning in Kruja

At least 370 residents of Kruja, a city central north Albania, have shown symptoms of poisoning in the past three days.

While preliminary reports from the Kruja police put the number at 35, more than 150 people visited the emergency room between Monday and Tuesday alone.

Reports came from several neighborhoods in the city, and citizens complained of stomach aches, diarrhea, high temperature, and nausea.

According to Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu, 30 people are hospitalized, although their condition is stable.

Authorities suspect sewage may have contaminated the city’s water reservoirs.

Kruja’s water supply system has been shut down, as the city awaits lab results, which may take up to 72 hours.

President Ilir Meta issued a statement on Facebook, describing the situation “a threat to national security” and calling for a full investigation.
