The Biodiversity Task Force of South East Europe (BDTF SEE) held online consultations on May 20 regarding the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.
The Agenda will be largely based on the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, a plan for protecting nature and reversing ecosystem degradation and a core part of the European Green Deal.
The Strategy for 2030 aims at establishing protected areas for at least 30% of both land and sea in Europe, restore degraded ecosystems and achieve €20 billion per year for biodiversity, via various sources, including EU, national and private funding.
The Green Agenda for the Western Balkans is expected to be ratified by BDTF SEE member countries (Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Serbia) before the autumn of 2020.
