Marko Djuric Appointed New Serbian Ambassador to the U.S.

Marko Djuric has been appointed as the new ambassador of Serbia to the United States of America.

The government appointed Djuric on Thursday, after dismissing him as the head of Serbia’s Office for Kosovo which he held since May 2014.

Petar Petkovic will be replacing Djuric at his previous position, Prishtina-based newspaper Koha quoted Serbian media.

In 2020, Djuric also was appointed as chief negotiator of Serbia in the Brussels dialogue with Kosovo.

Marko Djuric was arrested by Kosovo Police in March, 2018 for illegally entering the country after being banned by Kosovo’s government alongside with Serbia’s Minister of Defense Aleksandar Vulin.

Djuric was arrested while he was attending a debate in Kosovo’s divided northern city of Mitrovica, and then deported to Serbia on the same day.

The arrest sparked tensions between the two countries.
