The Swedish Embassy in Tirana is funding a project implemented by CNVP Albania to support families most impacted by the earthquake that hit Albania in November 2019.
The project includes providing walnut, chestnut, hazelnut, olive, citrus, grape, and pomegranate seedlings to families in Durres and Tirana. They aim to reach some 200 families that have been identified as needing support via collaboration with local government units.
Support for these families started in December 2020 in Kruja and Tirana and the provision of seedlings will continue in Thumane, Bubq, Nikel and Ishem.
The target families are ones that are familiar with cultivating different plants and their capacities include plantation, harvesting, processing, and labelling. Some are looking to diversify their products which will generate more income and lead to more sustainable development.
As of mid-January, 35% of the selected families have been provided with seedlings.
