Kosovo to Receive First Group of Afghan Refugees on Sunday

On Sunday, Kosovo will receive the first group of Afghan refugees fleeing the Taliban rule.

The first flight expected to land at 19.00 at Pristina airport will carry less than 100 people who worked as NATO contractors in Afghanistan, The Voice of America reported.

Kosovo was the first Balkan country to decide to host Afghans fleeing their country after the withdrawal of US troops and takeover by Talibans.

It is expected to receive about 2,000 Afghans refugees who are in the process of applying for US visas, are under special protection, or awaiting to be relocated to a country other than the United States.

Kosovo’s neighbor, Albania received a couple hundred of Afghan refugees during the weekend.
