Gent Sejko Appointed for Second Term as Governor of Bank of Albania

The Albanian Parliament has voted in favor of Gent Sejko’s second mandate as governor of Albania.

Sejko was appointed governor in 2015, after Parliament dismissed his predecessor, Artan Fullani, for abuse of office and theft.

After his first mandate expired on February 5, President Ilir Meta asked Parliament to renew it for a second term.

In his letter to Parliament, Meta writes that the Bank of Albania has been crucial in supporting the country’s “economic recovery following the earthquake and pandemic, as well as to facilitate fiscal consolidation.”

“However, given how total inflation has increased due to higher food and energy prices, the Bank of Albania should continue to closely monitor how inflation develops and adjust its policy in line with its goal of maintaining price stability,” the President warned.
