The recently-established Transparency Board has set the price of oil for the upcoming days at 245 lek (€2) a litre and the price of gas at a record 110 lek (€0,90) a litre.
The Transparency Board was established by Prime Minister Edi Rama after thousands of Albanians took to the streets to protest the unprecedented rise in fuel prices.
The Board decides on the price of fuel at pumps every three days. Companies that do not abide by the prices face fines and the closure of their businesses.
But the price set by the Board on Saturday, March 26, is a scant 5 lek (€0,04) lower than the price of fuel at its highest of 250 lek, recorded on Wednesday, March 9.
This marked a 30% increase from the 192 lek price last Wednesday (€1,51) and a 50% increase over 2021’s average of 171 (€1,35).
Over March, Albanian citizens organized several protests to condemn the rise in fuel and consumer good prices, blaming the government for doing nothing to mitigate the consequences of inflation.
