Today, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that the Albanian emigrants stuck at the Greek border, as well as any other emigrant who resides outside Albania, will not be allowed to enter the country.
On Sunday, President Ilir Meta called on the government to find a solution for dozens of Albanians waiting for days in cold weather to return home.
However, Rama claimed that they are residents of Greece and have no immediate reason to enter Albania, which is why they will not be allowed entry. Rama said that this is also a way to discourage more people from attempting to enter the country.
The government warned that, from today, all Albanian residents that return to the country via land after they’ve been issued a permit by Albanian embassies will be quarantined in hotels for 14 days, at their own expense.
Dozens of Albanian emigrants are waiting to enter Albania at two entry point since April 3, stuck in no-man’s land.
