Albanian citizens over the age of 75 will not have to renew their state IDs.
A government-proposed bill on electronic IDs foresees the waiving of renewal deadlines for citizens over 75, meaning their IDs will be valid for the rest of their lives.
The bill is expected to benefit about 148,000 people. The bill’s proposal was made on the grounds that the ID renewal process incurs costs that may weigh too heavily on this demographic, and the government seems unwilling to absorb those costs.
