Albania Engulfed in Crime

In recent days, several serious criminal incidents have occurred in the country, showing a heightened activity of criminal gangs.

October 1

As yet unidentified people fired a gun in the direction of the car of Ferdinand Llanaj. As a result, Llanaj and his 8-year-old son Dritan Bega were wounded. Ferdinand Llanaj is the brother of Aleksandër Llanaj, one of the people convicted for the Çole massacre on April 7, 2015.

In Vranisht, Vlora, a 40-year-old man was wounded for unknown reasons.

September 30:

 

In Peqin, a 63-year-old man fired a gun against a 56-year-old after a conflict.

September 29

In Lapraka, 4 people were wounded after a conflict in a bar owned by one of the people involved. Arben Seferaj, a person declared wanted by the police for criminal activities, was among those wounded.

In Shkodra, an explosive exploded on the first floor of a three-floor building owned by Avdyl Derguti.

September 18

In Elbasan there was an incident as yet unclarified by the police, namely a confrontation between several police officers and one of the gangs of Elbasan led by Suel Çela and Sokol Sanxhaktari. The car of the deputy director of the local police was hit by a car with tinted windows owned by Suel Çela. The police has so far undertaken no action to arrest those responsible.

In all the above cases, the police forces have neither been able to clarify the situation, nor arrest those responsible. Former Minister of Interior Affairs Dritan Demiraj made an appeal to the police to respond faster.
