Albania Pledges €1 Million for Ukraine in Donors’ Conference

Albania has pledged to donate €1 million to Ukraine in an international donors’ conference held in Warsaw on Thursday.

“We are aware that this will not change the fate of war and reconstruction, but we are very honored to be here. I am grateful to the Prime Ministers of Sweden and Poland for making us part of this conference,” Prime Minister Edi Rama said of Albania’s donation.

Rama had already announced Albania’s donation on Tuesday, when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the Albanian Parliament through a video message.

Zelenskyy described the horrific acts committed by Russia against Ukrainian citizens, and asked the Albanian government to restrict entry to Russian boats and tourists.

“I will be on the side of the people of Ukraine and aim to end this war and see peace as soon as possible,” Rama said at the donors’ conference.

Hosted by Sweden and Poland, participants—which include countries and businesses—have pledged $6.5 billion in humanitarian aid.

European Council President Charles Michel said that he hopes this conference will mark the starting point for a Marshall Plan for Ukraine.
