Albania received 10,000 doses of the Russian “Sputnik V” vaccine on Monday, a donation by the United Arab Emirates.
The ministers of health and reconstruction received the vaccines at Tirana’s airport, thanking the Crown Prince of UAE, Mohammad Bin Zayed. Prime Minister Edi Rama was not present at the airport this time; he is on a visit to France.
In December, Rama called the Russian Embassy’s suggestion to purchase their vaccine “a ridiculous provocation“.
Two weeks ago, the government opened the way for any vaccine approved in the country of origin to arrive in Albania.
Sputnik V adds to vaccines produced by Pfizer and AstraZeneca that are being administered in the country to medical staff, people over 80, and teachers.
