Albania Seizes $2.2 Million in Contraband Oil off Coast of Durres

The tanker “Queen Majeda” coming from the Port of Benghazi in Libya was raided by Albanian authorities as it approached the Port of Durres on the suspicion it was transporting contraband oil.

The vessel was intercepted by the Albanian Coast Guard and several other law enforcement agencies, who escorted the vessel to the West Terminal of the Port.

Police then announced the seizure of 2275 tons of contraband oil, worth about $2.2 million on the tanker and the arrest of four people.

The authorities announced that the investigation into the ship “had been extended for several months and was finalized with the arrest of the ship’s captain, 54 years old with the initials ZA, and the crew members”.

In addition to the captain, three crew members from Libya and Syria were also detained.
