The Albanian government has announced a new lockdown that will take place between the hours of 20:30 and 06:000 between 24 December 2020 and 4 January 2021.
The new measures due to the upcoming holidays were announced on Monday by the Minister of Health, Ogerta Manastirliu during a press conference.
Delivery service and emergencies are excluded, and citizens can apply through e- Albania if they need to be out during this period of time.
It was also decided that all flights to the UK will be suspended starting from Tuesday until January 6. Anyone coming from the UK will be quarantined for 14 days. This decision is in line with many EU States and North Macedonia who announced new restrictions due to a new strain of COVID-19 detected in the country.
Detailed studies on this new variant of Covid- 19 are being conducted in the UK, the World Health Organization announced.
The new variant is spreading more rapidly, but it is not believed to be more deadly.
Along with the UK, the same mutation of the Covid-19 virus has also been detected in the Netherlands, Denmark and Australia, the WHO told the BBC.
