Albania to Begin COVID-19 Vaccination on January 11

Albania will begin COVID-19 vaccination on Monday, January 11.

Prime Minister Edi Rama made the news public via a Facebook post.

Rama did not elaborate on the details of the vaccination process, namely, who will be the first to receive the vaccine and what protocol will be followed.

The government has obtained 500 thousand doses of the COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and BioNTech.

On January 1, Rama announced that the initial 10,750 doses would arrive in Albania in the third week of January. Another 30,250 doses will arrive in February, with the rest coming in on a monthly basis per the government’s vaccination plan, that has yet to be made public.

The Air Albania stadium in Tirana will serve as the first vaccination center.

Previously, Rama has stated that doctors will be the first to receive the vaccine.
