Albania to Supply Kosovo with Electricity for New Year’s

Albania will offer Kosovo 7680 MWh on December 31 and January 1 to help the country during its ongoing energy crisis.

The Albanian government will not seek cash repayment for this loan, but will ask that Kosovo donate some of its power back to Albania during the summer.

Minister of Infrastructure and Energy confirmed the agreement on Tuesday evening, following Prime Minister Edi Rama’s announcement that Albania would help Kosovo weather its energy crisis.

Rising energy prices and outdated thermal plants have led to a country-wide energy crisis in Kosovo. Since Wednesday, December 22, KEDS, Kosovo’s energy distribution company, has rolled out daily power cuts for Kosovo citizens.

Yesterday, Kosovo’s parliament failed to vote on emergency measures that would require daily power cuts for the next sixty days.
