Albanian Anti-COVID-19 Measures Remain the Same as Cases Continue to Climb

Despite the increase in COVID-19 cases in Albania, the Committee of Technical Experts has not made any changes to health and safety measures.

Last week there was an average of 291 cases a day but this week, it increased to 482. The total number of active cases in the country is 5792 confirmed, five times more than two weeks ago. The majority of the new cases are in the 35-64 age group.

The overall fatality rate is 1.8%.

Head of the Institute of Public Health Albana Fico said the increase is due to the highly transmissable delta variant which is currently prevalent in Albania.

Tirana and Shkodra have the most active cases, but significant increases have been reported in Saranda, Himara, and Vlora.

The Committee called on the public to wear masks when required, wash hands, maintain social distancing and to get vaccinated.

Any resident or citizen over 18 can now get a vaccine for free at any vaccination center in the country. They are open from 8am-8pm seven days a well. Citizens should present an ID card and foreign residents should have a residence permit, passport, and Albanian telephone number.

Albania remains one of the few countries that has absolutely no restrictions or precautions for foreign visitors. There is no quarantine period and there is no requirement to present a PCR test, antibody test, proof of having recovered from COVID-19 or proof of vaccination.
