Deputy Foreign Minister Gent Cakaj has called the trial of Kosovo’s top political leaders a political trial.
“The accusations are politically initiated. The Special Court is an inevitable evil. Serbia did not have a Special Court. President Vucic was Milosevic’s propaganda minister. The Hague Tribunal is not investigating the Serbs. The Special Court is a court that investigates one ethnicity”, said Cakaj in the show Open.
According to Cakaj, the trial aims to overturn the victory of the KLA:
“The decriminalization of the KLA army is being aimed at there, the responsibility is being verticalized, which is unfair. It risks overturning the historical narrative of the overthrow of Yugoslavia and the liberation war of Kosovo, as Serbia is more of a victim than Kosovo.”
He recalled, “all convictions for Serbia’s crimes in Kosovo were in military and secondary profiles”.
“So while war crimes charges are being de-sanctioned in Serbia, a former president of Kosovo should not appear in court after 20 years. The very existence of the Special Court is political. It is selective, it has a mandate to investigate only the alleged crimes of the Albanians and to silence the criminal responsibility of the high structures of Serbia “, said Cakaj.
