The Albanian government has opened the first regional COVID ward outside the capital.
The Elbasan hospital now has three specialised wards with a total of 81 beds, available for COVID-19 patients. The news was announced today by Health Minister Ogerta Manastirliu.
This is the 5th COVID hospital in the country. Four others are located in Tirana and are nearing capacity. The opening of the Elbasan hospital for patients is a part of the government’s plan to include regional hospitals in the response to the pandemic.
Manastirliu noted that there are five regional hospitals that will be set up for COVID patients. They have a combined capacity of 600 beds, bringing the total number of beds in COVID hospitals to 1600.
