Albanian Government Requests to Buy over 50 Ventilators for Intensive Care Units

The government has called for bids for over 50 new ventilator machines for the intensive treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Via an urgent direct procurement procedure, the Ministry of Health has opened the call for bids for a value of approximately €1 million.

Ventilators are used to assist or replace breathing in patients that are unable to do so spontaneously. The cost of one varies from €15,000 to €20,000. Thus, via this tender the government can acquire 50-65 ventilators.

A week ago the government acquired 40 ventilators from Germany. The machines have yet to arrive in Albania.

Currently, there are about 160 ventilators in the entire country, 130 of them are owned by public hospitals.
