Albanian Parliament to Adopt Resolution in Support of Ukraine

The Albanian government has drafted a resolution on the war in Ukraine that is set to be voted on in parliament in the coming days.

On Tuesday, Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party Taulant Balla delivered a draft resolution to other parliamentary groups on Supporting the Territorial Sovereignty of Ukraine.

Balla said that the resolution was drafted in consultation with the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. It is now being reviewed by parliamentary groups and the Committee on Foreign Policy.

He added it will be added to the agenda of the next plenary session that will be scheduled soon.

In a previous parliamentary session, the ruling Socialist Party argued that a resolution was not necessary because there were already mechanisms in place. But since then, the government has joined EU sanctions against Russia and offered to take in Ukrainian refugees.

The sanctions, unveiled my Foreign Minister Olta Xhaçka on Sunday, include the freezing of assets and banning Russian aircrafts from entering Albanian airspace.
