Albanian Police Issue Record High in Fines to Coronavirus Lockdown Violators

The Albanian police have issued an unprecedented €80,000 in fines to quarantine violators in the last 24 hours.

On Tuesday, police announced that 729 individuals and 19 entrepreneurs were fined for an amount of 9,970,000 ALL (€80, 000).

— 719 people were fined €80 each for violating lockdown restrictions.

— 9 people were fined €160 each for hanging out in parks in violations of lockdown rules.

— 19 shop owners were fined €800 for doing business beyond the time limit.

— 1 person who violated quarantine order and went out was fined €550.

April 10 was the second day with the most fines, €40,000.

The government eased movement restriction on April 13 by extending the time people can go out to do shopping: 90 minutes, any time from 05:00 to 17:30.

People can also use their cars to go to work, from 05:00 to 8:00, and to drive back home, from 16:00 to 17:30.

As of Monday, police are using drones to monitor people’s movements.

Since lockdown restrictions were imposed on March 16, police have fined more than 5,500 people and over 250 businesses for a total of over €700,000.
