Posters depicting Veliaj in clown makeup, warning that the “clown and the oligarchs will pay,” were spread throughout the city yesterday at midnight by leftist activist group Organizata Politike.

City cleaning services are not part of the duties and responsibilities of the Albanian police, or of any other democratic country’s police.

The posters come in the wake of Veliaj’s successive attempts to demolish the National Theatre, first by taking ownership of the National Theatre’s land, then by approving the demolition of the Theatre in an unannounced, illegal municipal council meeting, and, finally, by demolishing the building at 4:30 in the morning, in secret, illegally, and by exerting violence on citizens who were trying to protect it.
