Prime Minister Edi Rama launched his personal YouTube channel on Thursday, becoming the first politician in Albania to do so.
Rama makes extensive use of social media. The latest addition comes less than a year ahead of general elections in the country.
In March 2017, he launched ERTV – Edi Rama TV – a Facebook TV channel dedicated to his daily activity. In time, the channel also developed particular shows like interviews with government officials and news bulletin focused government activities.
ERTV has since become one of the main news sources for mainstream media.
Its employees claim that the cost for the TV channel is zero, and that people working there are young volunteers.
The cost and origin of financial resources for ERTV and Rama’s other media channels remain unknown.
