Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama is visiting Ukraine today, in his capacity as OSCE Chair-in-Office.
In his first visit to Ukraine, Rama will have meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk, Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko, and Speaker of the Parliament Dmytro Razumkov. Rama and Acting Foreign Minister Gent Cakaj will also visit conflict-affected areas in eastern Ukraine.
Rama’s visit will aim at facilitating efforts toward a peaceful resolution of the crisis in Ukraine, strengthening the co-operation between the OSCE and Ukraine, and supporting the work of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) to Ukraine.
Rama is expected to visit Russia and the US during this year in the same capacity as OSCE CiO.
In January, Albania took over the OSCE Chairmanship for 2020, and Rama presented to the OSCE Permanent Council the organization’s priorities for the year ahead:
- ‘Making a difference on the ground’, conflict resolution, promoting the role of women in peace and security;
- ‘Leveraging our acquis’, enhancing security against contemporary threats and challenges such as small arms and light weapons, organized crime, human trafficking, violent extremism, cybersecurity, and on promoting the freedom of expression and of the media, and combating violence against women;
- ‘Dialogue’, promoting tolerance and non-discrimination.
