Albanian Prime Minister Promises Big Social Spending in 2021

Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced that the 2021 state budget foresees an increase in pay for doctors and nurses.

During a press conference, he also said that social welfare for families in need will double in 2021.

Additionally, Rama promised that a fund of $34 million will be used to award end-of-year pension bonuses to retirees this year.

The government is basing the spendings foreseen for 2021, an election year, on an optimistic revenue forecast. However, both the IMF and the Bank of Albania have expressed their concern that this forecast may not be realistic.
