Prime Minister Edi Rama, also Minister of Foreign Affairs, has stated that he will soon visit Russia, Ukraine and the US in the framework of Albania’s Chairmanship of the OSCE.
Speaking to Albanian journalists in Vienna, Austria, one day ahead of presenting Albania’s programme to the OSCE’s Permanent Council, Rama stated:
“My visit to Russia is part of the OSCE Chair agenda. It is part of the engagements I committed to. We have shared the meetings with the Acting Minister [of Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj] in order to balance our domestic and OSCE engagements. Some of the visit will take place very soon – visits to Ukraine, the US and Russia. We are waiting for confirmations before setting the [meeting] dates.”
Albania’s top three priorities during its OSCE Chairmanship for 2020 include conflict resolution, rights of women and fight against corruption.
This will be Prime Minister Rama’s first visits to Russia and Ukraine. Both countries have been involved in an armed conflict since 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine and Russia-backed armed separatists declared independence of two republics in the eastern part of the country.
It is not clear who the Albanian prime minister will meet during these visits.
