Albanian researcher and writer, Moikom Zeqo has passed away at the age of 71.
After suffering from a serious illness for some time, he died on the morning of 15 June.
Zeqo was born in Durres in 1949. He graduated from the University of Tirana in 1971 with a degree in language and literature. For some time he worked as a journalist and editor of the newspaper ‘Drita’ before working as a teacher. In the late 70s he began working as a researcher at the Archaeological Museum of Durres before becoming a specialist in ancient art at the Academy of Science in Tirana.
In 1991 he was appointed the Chairman of the Culture Committee before being promoted to Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. He then became a deputy of the Socialist Party. Between 1997-2005 he was the Director of the National Museum.
During his life, Zeqo wrote some 62 books of poetry, archaeological studies, art history and even screenplays of an archaeological nature. He has received prizes for his work and they have been translated into English, French, Greek, Italian, Bulgarian, Romanian, German, Polish, and Danish languages. He has also had three art exhibitions where he has displayed his paintings.
His works include Dardanian Knights, I Don’t Believe in Ghosts and Zodiac.
