Albania’s First Female Pilot Honoured

A 25-year-old Albanian woman, Armela Murati has become the first female pilot in the country’s history, two years after starting a course to be a pilot at the military academy.

In a 2021, interview, Murati said that despite being a woman in a male-dominated area, she had received a lot of support and encouragement from her peers.

Originally from Burrell, Murati said, ” I did not intend to become a pilot. I just wanted to serve my country but fate wanted me to join the Air Force and I am already a trainee. The pressure is quite great, but I have come with clear goals and I want to take this step, right to the end.”

Prime Minister Edi Rama celebrated the young woman in a social media post and said ” she will enter the history of Albania.”
