Albania’s Leaders Defend KLA War against Serbia, Support Indicted Leaders

President Ilir Meta and political leaders in Albania have defended the Kosovo Liberation Army’s (KLA) war against the Serbian regime of Slobodan Milosevic, and expressed their firm belief in the innocence of its leaders who are indicted by the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office.

President Ilir Meta stated that their innocence and the justice of the war will be once again confirmed after the latest indictment.

“The KLA war, imposed on the people of Kosovo by the oppression and genocide of the Milosevic criminal regime, proved to be just and decisive, not only for the freedom and establishment of the Republic of Kosovo within internationally recognized borders, but also for peace, its European stability and future, and that of our region.

We believe in the innocence of President Hashim Thaçi, former Speaker of Parliament Kadri Veseli and all their comrades-in-arms,” he wrote.

Prime Minister Edi Rama said he has not been able to find the right words to express his indignation upon reading the names of those indicted. Rama said he will speak to the nation tomorrow.

Rama reaffirmed the justice of KLA’s war against the brutal Milosevic regime and injustices in the heart of Europe.

Opposition leader Lulzim Basha said he is convinced of the innocence of  Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli and all their comrades-in-arms who fought for a just cause. He added that the KLA fought for freedom in the face of an aggressor who spared nothing, from genocide to ethnic cleansing.

“Nothing can defile the liberation war and the sublime sacrifice of the people of Kosovo for freedom, independence and human dignity,” Basha stated.
