The Alliance for the Protection of the National Theatre has reaffirmed its commitment to protect the building “at all costs”.
Despite yesterday’s decision taken by the City Council to demolish the theatre, artists and citizens have mobilized to preserve and protect it. They have called on members of the public to do the same.
“27 months of tireless endurance! This is not our cause, this is everyone’s cause. Total 24 hour mobilisation with all forces to stop the moves of criminal power. We preserve heritage, identity, dignity, and we fight for justice!”
The Alliance along with citizens, journalists, artists, and other members of civil society have been protesting every day against the building’s destruction for over 27 months. They have expressed their determination that “they will defend the theatre to the end, even physically”.
