After the protests of the inhabitants of the Lapraka and Astir neighborhood about forced and illegal expropriations for the Outer Ring Road construction project, which has been marred by suspicious and possible illegal public procurement procedures, also university students have started today to protest against the policies of the Rama government.
The students from several faculties, including Engineering and Architecture, have boycotted classes and marched to the Ministry of Education in protest of recently imposed tariffs of 700 lekë per exam. Since the arrival of Minister of Education Lindita Nikolla, the public university system has seen price hikes without improvement of the infrastructure, while private universities have been allowed to compete for government funding.
Students protested earlier this year, in January, against the high tariffs. In October, several student activists from the Movement for the University were forcibly removed for protesting during a speech of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
