All December 10, a group of civil society activists active in the public debate founded the “Albanian-American Movement against the Sorosian Oligarchy,” which aims to dismantle what it calls “the controlling Soros class that aims to bankrupt Albania.”
The movement plans to inform the public about the activities of billionaire investor George Soros and his influence on the Albanian political system.
The first action of the movement has been a lawsuit against Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj against the concession for the kiosks seen everywhere in the city and the occupation of public parking spaces.
According to the Facebook page of the movement,
In the framework of the International Day against Corruption, the Albanian-American Movement against the Sorosian Oligarchy files a lawsuit at the Prosecution for Serious Crime against Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj for the corrupt favoring of the company that installed the network of kiosks in Tirana and the usurpation of public parking spaces without any transparence.
This is not the first time an anti-Soros movement haas been created in a former communist country. In 2005 a similar movement was created in Georgia, against the “threat” that George Soros posed “against the Georgian nation.”
George Soros is well-known for his investments in former communist countries, and a large part of Rama’s government has received in the past funding an education opportunities through his large network of NGOs.
