Artists Mediterranea 18 Announced

Recently the participating artists of Mediterranea 18 Young Artists Biennale have been announced. The Mediterranea Biennale will this year be held in Tirana, May 4–9, under the title “Home: History, Conflict, Dream, Failure.” Artistic director is Albanian artist Driant Zeneli, with the following team responsible for the different artistic disciplines: Jonida Turani for Applied Arts, Maja Ciric for Visual Arts, Ala Group (Maria Rosa Sossai) for Literary Creation, Docufest (Eroll Bilibani) for Film, Ema Andrea for Performance and Tulla Center (Alban Nimani and Rubin Beqo) for Music.

From Albania there will be 24 participating artists, duos, or groups. Some of them are already well known within the art scene, such as Iva Lulashi, Sead Kazanxhiu, Remijon Pronja, and Ledia Kostandini, while for others this will be their first introduction to an international audience.

A surprise appearance is Rea Xhillari, the stepdaughter of Prime Minister Edi Rama. Xhillari showed up in Rama’s cultural orbit before, as employee of architecture company 51N4E. Xhillari recently opened a design company in Tirana.

The Mediterranea Biennale is conceived as a multidisciplinary meeting of young artists under thirty from the Euro-Mediterranean countries. This year’s edition will feature young artists from Albania, Austria, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Kosovo, Lebanon, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestine, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey, and UK.
