Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, the average gross monthly wage in Albania, rose 2.9% during Q2 when compared to the same period in 2019.
In Q2 2020, the average gross monthly salary was 54,149 ALL (EUR 435.47). This shows a steady increase from 2017 where the average salary was below 50,000 ALL (EUR 402.83).
There was however significant disparity when it comes to different industries. Those working in finance and insurance enjoy a wage 2.18 times higher than the national average but those working in agriculture and forestry have 37.5% less at the end of the month.
Industry did see an increase in wages by 4.4% in 2019, but again, agriculture and forestry dropped by 13.9%.
The second highest paid industry in Albania in Q2 2020 is information and communication, followed by real estate, public administration, and arts and entertainment. In terms of occupation regardless of the industry type, managers earned almost 100,000 ALL (EUR 800) while those working in agriculture received just over 30,000 ALL (EUR 240).
The minimum wage in Albania is currently 26,000 ALL (EUR 209), an increase from 2017 when it was 24,000 ALL (EUR 193). It has one of the lowest minimum wages in the whole of Europe.
