In his concession speech yesterday night, PD leader Lulzim Basha has announced that he will freeze his position as chairman of the party, and calls upon the party to organize immediately new leadershop elections.
For this reason, with immediate effect, I have decided to freeze all my organizational functions as Chairman of the Democratic Party and to delegate them to the two Deputy Chairmen and the Secretary-General, to organize with full decision power the contest for the chairman of the Democratic Party according to the principle one member one vote.
Basha called the elections “an unequal match” and denounced the “massive” vote buying.
With all the efforts made by me and the Democratic Party, with the decriminalization law, with the uncompromising battle against drugs, with our imposition on Ed Rama remove half of his government, with the awareness raising among our international partners, crime and dirty money, and the pressure of the state weren’t stopped.
There was massive vote buying, once again replacing the debate for an alternative with the wad of money for the vote, by invalidating the plan and the project with a payment for a deeper poverty, to make its exchange for case even easier. With dirty drugs money and government corruption.
This was an unequal contest, but certainly a content in which I never considered to compete with the same means, and neither do I invite the Albanian citizens to do the same.
What happened during the June 25 elections is the triumph of lawlessness. Truly, I and the Democratic Party achieved a disappointing result.
