The Embassy of the United Kingdom in Albania has condemned the changes made to the Electoral Code by the Socialist majority of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
“We regret that today’s changes to the Electoral Code have been made without the agreement of the Political Council and without exhausting efforts to find consensus,” the embassy noted in a statement posted on social media on Monday.
It added that the 5 June agreement on the Electoral Reform between the majority and opposition, which the latter considers violated by the today’s changes, “was an important step forward made through dialogue and negotiation.”
On Monday, the Albanian parliament approved the Electoral Code with 96 votes in favor and 15 votes against.
The opposition claims today’s changes violate the Electoral Reform agreed with the facilitation of the Western countries’ embassies.
