The UK’s Home Secretary, Priti Patel, held a meeting with Albanian police officers stationed in Dover in order to implement joint plans for the removal of Albanian immigrants who entered this country by dinghy.
In a tweet, Patel said the plan would tackle organized crime, illegal immigration and target criminal gangs.
“Yesterday I met with the Albanian State Police to implement joint operational plans to remove the Albanians who have entered the UK on dinghies. Albania is a safe and prosperous country. This plan will address organized crime, illegal migration and will target criminal gangs,” writes Patel.
A few days ago, the British media wrote that senior Albanian police officers would be stationed in Dover and other ports to help identify Albanians, investigate their background, including criminal links, and assist the Border Force.
Patel held repeated talks with Interior Minister Bledi Çuçi to find out how they could speed up the deportation of illegal Albanian immigrants under a return agreement she signed with Albania last year.
It is claimed that 6,000 of the 23,000 migrants who have reached the United Kingdom are from Albania, a figure the Albanian government has questioned.
