Car Belonging to Secretary of Imprisoned Judge Set on Fire in Kruje

The car belonging to the secretary of imprisoned Judge Enkeleda Hoxha was set on fire this morning in an alleged arson attack.

According to the police report, the incident took place in Kruja in a city parking lot near the owner, Igli Kani’s apartment. Media reports the vehicle was covered in oil and then set on fire.

No injuries have been reported.

Earlier this month, Hoxha was arrested alongside nine other people as a part of an operation conducted by SPAK. She is charged with implementing a scheme for the reduction of sentences and the eventual release of convicts from prison.

The list of the arrested includes judge Enkeleda Hoxha, lawyer Aldo Tabaku, court secretary Manuela Mallakuçi, who had collaborated in reducing convicts’ sentences and/or release them all together in exchange for money. Psychiatric-legal expert Shkëlqim Korbi was also arrested on charges of writing false psychiatric evaluations.

Six more persons are also part of the group and stand accused of actively corrupting officials: Sajmir Petani, Bledar Petani, Altin Skëndaj, Gazmir Nezaj, Gentjan Nezaj, and Isuf Tanuzi.

Among convicts released by the same judge through the same scheme are suspected to be some of the most notorious criminals in the country, including Endrit Dokle, Hekuran Billo, Genc Tafili and Ilir Paja.
