CCTV footage showing the murder of Klodian Rasha by a police officer has been published, shedding new light on the incident.
The Prosection presented the footage which shows Rasha being chased by police officer Nevaldo Hajdaraj who then reached him and grabbed him by the hands. Rasha managed to break free and run and it was at this moment that Hajdaraj shot him twice.
Based on this evidence, the Prosecution argued that the officer should be charged with premeditated murder. This is due to the fact that as the officer grabbled Rasha’s hands, he would have known that he was unarmed. Therefore, shooting him twice from behind was murder and not justified as self-defense.
The police previously claimed that Rasha had been armed. They said a pistol was found on the scene.
Rasha was killed in the early hours of December 8. He was spotted by the police in Laprake, in violation of the COVID-19 curfew. His murder sparked week-long protests in the capital where police dispersed protestors with tear gas and water cannons. Several journalists were arrested and detained, some protestors, mainly children, said they were mistreated in detention.
