The Council of Europe and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) has launched a new four-year project that aims to strengthen the quality of education in Albania through capacity building the education system.
The plan is to develop the competencies of school children in the area of ‘democratic culture’, in line with national policy objectives and the CoEs approaches.
The first Steering Committee meeting took place on 24 June and included representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Agency for Quality Assurance in Pre-university Education, the General Director of Pre-university Education, the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination, the People’s Advocate (Ombudsman) and various NGOs. Discussions emphasised the importance of democratic culture for younger generations and expressed support in the continuation of activities.
The project will promote the CoE approach to citizen education. It will include a holistic take on skills, knowledge, values and attitudes, a focus on democratic school development, and an integration of youths civic experiences in the wider community. The objective of the project will be realised through measures that will target education policy and practice in three areas; policy support, democratic school governance, and teacher support.
