The Constitutional Court today published its verdict not to accept the request of former Kavaja mayor Elvis Rroshi to be reinstated in his function.
In January, Rroshi had filed an appeal at the Constitutional Court against the decision of the Central Election Commission (KQZ) to remove him from office on the basis of the decriminalization law.
The KQZ had dismissed Rroshi on December 29, 2016.
Rroshi has been accused of hiding his criminal past from the decriminalization self-declaration form. According to the current state of the investigation of the Prosecution, Elvis Rroshi has been convicted in Italy for group rape, drug trafficking, and money laundering.
The publication of the Constitutional Court’s verdict now allows for the organization of local elections in Kavaja.
According to art. 10(3) of the Electoral Code and on the basis of art. 115 of the Constitution, the elections are held between 30 and 45 days from the verdict of the Constitutional Court. The President is expected to decree elections within 48 hours after publication of the verdict.
