Following the two confirmed cases of coronavirus in Albania, Prime Minister Edi Rama held a government meeting this morning, outlining action the government will take.
He announced that all schools will close for two weeks and that flights to north Italy and so-called “red zones” will be cancelled until at least 3 April.
Red zones include large swathes of northern Italy including the whole of Lombardy, including the city of Milan. The provinces of Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia, Rimini, Pesaro e Urbino, Venezia, Padova, Treviso, Asti, Vercelli, Novara, Verbano Cusio Ossola and Alessandri have also been included.
The Italian government decided to quarantine the area over the weekend over a drastic increase in cases and deaths in the country.
Rama told the media that public health experts have been working hard to implement a plan of action that includes limiting and delaying the spread of the virus and dealing with the consequences of the infection. He said he is consulting with the World Health Organisation on all points and called for restraint and calm.
A fund of 400 million lek (EUR 3.2 million) has been dedicated to meet the needs of the system.
