The Serious Crimes Appeals Court has affirmed former Vlora police chief Jaeld Çela’s prison sentence.
In yesterday’s hearing, the court dismissed Çela’s request for house arrest.
Çela, who was wanted by the police since 2017, turned himself in on May 16. Alongside former Minister of Interior Tahiri, he was accused of international drug trafficking, participation in a “structured criminal organization”, and “criminal activity under a structured criminal organization.” The Court cleared him of these charges, but convicted him of abusing his office, and sentenced him to 3 years and 4 months in prison.
