The Supreme Court of Kosovo decided to leave out of Parliament Adrijana Hodzic, the leader of the Bosniak party Ujedinjena Zajednica (UZ-AH).
On Friday, it refused Hodzic ‘s complaint against the decision of the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP) annulling over 4,200 votes for Hodzic in Serb-majority municipalities.
The seat passed to Duda Balje of the Socialdemokratska Unija (SDU) party of Kosovo Bosniaks, who has been representing her community in Kosovo’s parliement in the last three terms.
ECAP decision was made based on the complaint of Balje and representatives of Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities, who claimed that the UZ-AH and Roma Initiative secured through the illegitimate active backing of Srpska Lista (Serbian List).
Srpska Lista is a Belgrade-backed party in Kosovo that represents the Serbian community. It won all 10 parliamentary seats assigned to this community. Other ethnics communities complained that the party had channeled the Serbs’ votes towards Hodzic, to have her elected illegitimately and expand the Srpska Lista’s influence in Parliament against the interest of other ethnic minorities.
Final results certified on Saturday show also that the Roma Initiative lost one seat after annulled votes by ECAP.
20 out of 120 seats of Kosovo’s Parliament are reserved for non-majority communities, 10 for Serbs, four for Romani, Ashkali, and Egyptians, three for Bosniaks, two for Turks, and one seat for Gorans.
Running for the first time in elections, UZ- AH won 6,379 votes, before ECAP decided to cancel over 4200 of them.
The winner of Kosovo parliamentary elections is Vetevendosje Movement led by Albin Kurti with 50.28%. It is followed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) with 17%, Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) with 12.73% and Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) with 7.12%.
