It’s now possible to register for a COVID-19 vaccine in Albania, via the e-Albania portal.
While vaccination of priority groups is still underway, the Albanian government has announced that mass vaccination will start soon. They have recently made an agreement with a Turkish company to distribute the Sinovac vaccine, in addition to AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Sputnik.
Vaccination will continue with those over the age of 70 years. According to data from INSTAT there are 82,000 people over the age of 80, 86,000 between 75-79, and 109,700 from 70-74. This equates to around 10% of the population of the country, some 277,000 people.
The online registration system takes a few moments and the applicant will then receive a message from their family doctor regarding the date of vaccination.
The problem is that the 15,000 foreigners living in Albania do not all have access to the portal in order to register. Some may be able to access it in case they have a business, but these are the minority. Exit called three local family doctors who all said they do not treat foreigners.
Exit has reached out to a spokesman for the government on this matter and they advised they will provide further information soon.
