Curfew to Continue, Ban on Large Gatherings Continues, School Restrictions Remain the Same

The Albanian Technical Committee has announced that the curfew that expired today, will continue indefinitely.

This means that there will be no travel on foot or by vehicle between the hours of 22:00 and 06:00. Bars and restaurants will also be closed during these times but delivery services will continue. Gatherings of more than 10 people are prohibited.

Schools will continue to operate with alternate teaching schedules- this means in-person and online teaching on a rotating basis. Nurseries and kindergartens will remain open as the IPH said there is a low incidence of infection in children aged between 0 and 4 years old.

In terms of Christmas and end of year festivities, the ban on gatherings of more than 10 remains in force. Additionally, it’s recommended that large family gatherings do not happen and that people celebrate with close family only.

Prime Minister Edi Rama said he does not foresee additional measures for the festive period but that this depends on the severity of the situation. Deputy Health Minister Mira Rakacolli said that measures could be eased by new year if the situation improves.
