Yesterday, Democratic MP Agron Shehaj joined the protest of the National Theater troupe. He declared: “if you decided to take over the building, I will be the first to enter and the last to leave.”
Shehaj proposed the occupation of the National Theater building as the only feasible way to rescue the Theater.
On Wednesday, the Rama government discreetly sent the introduced the National Theater draft law to the Parliament for approval.
With this move, the government has ended any possibility the artists or citizens might have had to revise the contents of the law, which outlines the destruction of the National Theater building, expropriation of public land, and the construction of commercial property and a new National Theater with a reduced footprint.
